OGC Innovation iDays 2025 in Frankfurt
Geospatial Ecosystems in the Age of AI – Building Trust in a Connected Future

This article summarizes the key insights from the OGC Innovation iDays 2025, where international experts from government agencies, research institutions, and industry discussed GeoAI and its growing importance for geodata, security, and digital sovereignty.
The conference highlighted how AI is accelerating the development of digital twins, real-time mapping, and automated data processing, while misinformation, data integrity, and geopolitical complexity introduce new demands for trust and standardization. Presentations were given by the European Commission and NATO, as well as tech companies such as Google, Overture Maps, Hexagon, and Esri. National mapping authorities from several European countries also participated. In addition, independent participants—professionals, researchers, and NGOs contributed with presentations and debates on GeoAI.
The introduction is followed by a brief summary of selected presentations, offering insight into the most important trends, technological shifts, and strategic perspectives shaping the future of geospatial ecosystems in an AI-dominated era.
