Charging facilities - Municipalities pave the way for accurate data
The Danish municipalities have taken the lead with data model, conceptual clarification, and collecting data from charging operators in a joint public database
Abstract
The Danish municipalities wanted to create a new normal for charging station data in 2022. There was a need for:
- Transparency in a new market that was moving towards critical infrastructure
- Free access – without subscriptions and apps
- Charging stations for cars, but also for micromobility, because we would rather cycle than drive cars
- High-quality administrative data that can be reused for end-user data, e.g. in tourism apps
KL therefore started a data project in 2022 that was to create the first standardized, public charging station data. The project is now completed and has been operational from the end of 2024.
