Tourists are flocking north – this requires more map data

More tourists are coming to Denmark, and tourism is becoming increasingly important for the municipalities' economy and jobs. At the same time, municipalities must take care of nature and avoid mass tourism. This requires more joint public tourism data.

Abstract

Tourism actors often work across municipalities, often across entire regions, or even at national level. Regardless of size and organization, tourism actors have one thing in common: They demand standardized, reliable data about natural areas, infrastructure, facilities, and attractions. This data is used for visualization in apps, reference works and in physical maps. It is therefore an advantage if data is standardized across municipalities and can be easily transferred regularly to appropriate web solutions and apps.

In recent years, there has been a strong increase in interest in the joint public, cross-municipal database, GeoFA (Geographical Subject Data in GeoDanmark), as a destination for municipal data. Several national, regional, and local actors use GeoFA, or are in dialogue with us about standardizing and registering more and better data in GeoFA.
