Abstract | Abstract
The article analyses Ernest Callenbach's novel Ecotopia (1975) and James Cameron's film Avatar (2009) as two related narratives under the common heading of ecotopia with focus on the journey as a means of insight. The ecotopia is understood here as a middle position between the utopia and the dystopia. The article also sketches the historical development from natural religions, through critique of modernity, to the contemporary focus on nature in literature and film.
